Camila Georgi COVID controversy

Former tennis star and world number 26, Camila Georgi has been alleged to have forged her Covid-19 documents.

In order to gain access to Australia’s tennis season including the most prestigious Australian open grand slam thatalleligible travellers should be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations as of 2022’ as per Ivisa.

In this article we will try and uncover the truth behind this ‘outrageous’ accusation.

Camila Georgi, a WTA Italian tennis player, is currently in the midst of a possible Australian open suspension after the Georgi family doctor alleged that she had deceived the Italian nation about tacking her Covid vaccinations.

The family doctor, Grillone, was arrested in 2022 after it was discovered that he was administering false serums into high-profile celebrities in Italy. Grillone released a statement saying that, last summer she asked him about getting false documentation for mandatory vaccinations. This includes the Coronavirus vaccine. Furthermore, the Georgi family doctor stated, “Italian tennis ace Camila Georgi is at the centre of a COVID-19 vaccine controversy, in which her family doctor alleged the athlete inquired about receiving a false certificate of proof that she received the jab,”

In Australia, the Covid rules are strict and were not broken. In the 2022 addition of the tournament, a ‘No vaccine, no entry’ policy. Due to this, the number 1 (Novac Djokovic) was forced to pull out and band from the countries. This means that Camila Georgi, if convicted, illegally entered Australia despite the rules.

In a statement to News.com.au, the Women’s Tennis Association said it is aware of the allegations against Georgi and is “currently monitoring the situation and any investigations that may be brought forward.” The WTA also said released that vaccine proof was also required at the U.S open of 2022.

Despite investigating, the officials have resisted placing sanctions on Georgi which may seem unfair to fellow tennis players. For example, Simona Halep (Romanian former grand slam winner) was suspended from play for the rest of the 2022 season, and a possible four-year suspension after testing positive for a very low dosage of Roxadustat. This drug increases the production of red blood cells and iron metabolism.

Unlike Georgi, Halep released a statement saying she did not know or willingly take the drug. Furthermore, she apologised and excepted the punishment. This passover on Georgi’s forgery may seem unfair to Halep and her supporters.

The Italian police have been investigating this and interviewed her about the controversy. The police have come out saying she refused to release a statement and has remained silent.

So, that leaves the tennis world with the long-lasting thought; is Georgi guilty or has she been set up?
