Police and Crime Commissioner election

An election for the Police and Crime Commissioner for the Wiltshire police authority area will take place on Thursday 2 May 2024. The police authority area includes Wiltshire Council and Swindon Borough Council.

The deadline to register to vote at this election has passed.

The deadline to register for a free Voter Authority Certificate has now passed.

The deadline to apply to vote by post has now passed.

The deadline to apply to vote by proxy has now passed.

A proxy is where you ask someone else to vote at the polling station on your behalf. The person you appoint as your proxy must attend your usual polling station. You can apply online to vote by proxy at future elections at GOV.UK: Apply to vote by proxy (opens new window).

Voting at the polling station 

Remember to take your ID to the polling station when you vote.

Your poll card will tell you the location of your polling station. You will need to take photo ID. Find out more about Voter photo ID or to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate see GOV.UK: Apply for photo ID to vote (called a ‘Voter Authority Certificate’) (opens new window) if you do not have an accepted form of ID.

Voting should be accessible to everyone whether you choose to vote at your polling station or in another way. The accessibility options for individual polling stations will be available when poll cards are delivered. Emergency Proxy 

When you have an emergency that means you can't vote at the polling station, under certain circumstances you can apply for an emergency proxy. 

This must be something you were not aware of before 5pm on Wednesday 24 April 2024. 

This may be because: 

  • you have a medical emergency 
  • you are called away for work 
  • your photo ID is lost, stolen, destroyed or damaged. 

To apply for an emergency proxy visit The Electoral Commission: Emergency proxy vote (opens new window) and complete the form relevant to you. Emergency proxy forms must be received before 5pm on polling day. 

Forms can be returned by email to voting@wiltshire.gov.uk (opens new window).

If is useful if you provide contact details for both you and your proxy so that Electoral Services can get in touch quickly to let you and your proxy know that your form has been processed and accepted.
