Build an overseas trade data table

Create custom overseas trade data tables by toggling between the filters. The tool includes both the Standard International Trade Classification system (SITC) and the Harmonised System (HS) on the same table as SITC directly correlates to HS. For more help, use our step-by-step guide.

Note: Eraser icons at the top of each filter can be selected to clear them. Orange diamond symbols in the table indicate confidential data withheld by HM Revenue and Customs.

Keyboard navigation

There is a known issue in the software to do with exiting the interactive data reports on this page.

To exit the data table and access the page content below it, select the 'esc' key. You may need to select it more than once to exit the table.

Using the custom tables

Step by step guides for keyboard users of the interactive data tables are available on how to:

Keyboard shortcuts for Power BI

These are available by selecting Shift + Question Mark. Check Microsoft Power BI's extended list of keyboard shortcuts for more information.

End of report

The CSV file will contain the full commodity data in the table. You need to be aware of this if you are viewing higher-level aggregates in the table onscreen.

You can download up to 30,000 rows of data using the CSV button or up to 150,000 rows using the export data function. To download larger datasets, we recommend using our API service.

Bookmark this page or copy the link to a safe place so you can come back to it later. You do not need to register to save a table.

See *2 in the table. Some data is withheld for confidentiality by HMRC. This is indicated in the table by this coloured marker.

Calculating value totals in your downloads

When calculating value totals at Harmonised System (HS) 2 level in your Comma Separated Values (CSV) download, use these commands in the 'J' column:

  • ‘INCLUDE’
  • ‘EXCLUDE’

All lines labelled ‘EXCLUDE’ should be removed when calculating HS2 value totals. For more information please see Help with creating custom data tables.

Port filter

In 2021, HMRC introduced a new port code: 'Dover / Eurotunnel'. This was so that traders could submit Customs Declarations before deciding on transport mode.

As a result, to calculate trade totals for Dover, select both of these ports from the filter:

  • ‘Dover’
  • ‘Dover/Eurotunnel’

A complete list of freight location codes are available from GOV.UK.
