Dyfed Powys

Dyfed Powys Police FAQ’s

  •  How do I contact my course provider?

By phone: 01267 226479 (phone lines are open between 9am and 12.30pm Monday to Friday).  If phone lines are busy or if you are calling outside of these hours, please leave a message with your name and contact number and we will return your call as soon as possible.

Email enquiries can also be sent to [email protected]

  • I need to change the date of my course? What do I need to do?

You can re-book your course online via Driver Education Courses (dyfed-powys-driver-retraining-courses.co.uk)  provided that your course is over 14 days away.  If you are within the 14 days, you will need to contact the office.  A re-booking fee may apply.

  • What does the course entail?

Courses are available online via Microsoft Teams or in a classroom environment at a venue within the Dyfed-Powys area.

The courses are designed to educate and to understand the effect of behaviour on other road users and those within the community.  There is no test however you must complete the whole course and engage with the trainer and others attending.

Courses are available in English and in Welsh.

  • I have special requirements. Can these be accommodated?

If you have any special requirements such as needing the assistance of an English translator/interpreter, medical conditions/disabilities which may affect you on the day, assistance with reading or writing, or breastfeeding requirements, you must contact us on the above telephone number before booking a course.

Attending an Online Course

  • What will I need for my course?

You will require access to a laptop or tablet device and have a good internet connection.  Smart phones may be used however the course will be far more effective if you have a larger screen.  Your device will need to have enough power to last the duration of the course so it is best to keep it plugged in to a mains supply.

You must be in a private room when completing the course, away from any distractions.

You must provide official photographic identification to attend the course.  Examples are a photocard driving licence, passport, work ID badge, blue badge, firearms certificate/shotgun licence etc.  If you are unsure if your identification is acceptable, please contact us prior to your course.

A pen, marker pen and paper will also be required during the course.

  • What platform is the course running on?

The course will take place online using the digital platform Microsoft Teams.

If using a tablet or smartphone, we recommend that you install the Microsoft Teams app in sufficient time before your course.  There is no cost to download the app.

You can also join a meeting via a web browser or desktop app.

We strongly recommend you test the system in advance of your course time to avoid any last minute issues.

  • How do I access my course?

Joining instructions will be emailed to you a week before your course from ‘Fastform online bookings’. Please check your junk, spam or promotions folders if not received in your main inbox.

The joining instructions will include the link/URL for your course.

Once you have connected to the course, you will be automatically placed into a waiting room where you will see the name of the course and a message to confirm that the trainer will admit you in due course.

We’ve created a video for you to watch which provides further information on how to join your course:

  • I am not very technical and am worried about completing the course. What help is available?

You will receive an email seven days before your course with the joining instructions which will contain further information and confirm what you need to do to prepare for your course.  There is also a link to a video we have created which will provide guidance on how to join your course:

English: https://youtu.be/Lw5zgeDv2-E

Welsh: https://youtu.be/laj2GDu1v9E

Our office team are happy to complete a trial run with you on how to join the course however we ask that you contact us in plenty of time so that this can be arranged.

You will be allowed to have a friend or family member to help you log onto your course however they will be required to vacate the room when your course starts.

If you do not have the equipment or help required to attend your course, we may be able to offer you a classroom course at a venue, depending on your critical date and availability.

  • What happens if I have technical issues whilst connecting or I lose connection during the course?

Check you are as close as possible to your internet router.  Turn off other devices that require the internet in order to help strengthen the signal.

If you experience issues with connecting, log out and back in as this may help.  Ensure you are joining with video and audio on when the prompt appears.

If you lose connection during the course, click on the original link that you initially joined the course with, you will re-enter the waiting room and your trainer will be alerted that you have re-joined. If you are not successful in re-joining, you will need to contact the office and you will have an opportunity to re-book the course, subject to availability.

  • I’m late for my course and the trainer has not granted me access. What should I do?

You must contact the Driver Re-Training Scheme as soon as possible to see if your course can be re-arranged.  Terms and conditions may apply.

  • I do not have childcare provision. How do I attend the online course?

It is a requirement to be able to complete the course in a private room away from distractions to allow you to concentrate and fully engage.  If this is not possible, you will need to consider the other options available to you.  Courses are however delivered at different times of the day to include evenings and on a Saturday therefore please consider which option is best suited for your circumstances.

  • There are no courses available online. What do I do?

Please contact the Driver Re-Training Scheme on 01267 226479 or by emailing [email protected] who will make every effort to assist you.
