Extant are creating ‘Unseen’, an audio drama that imaginatively responds to the themes and findings of The Unseen Report, portraying the unique ways in which domestic violence affects blind and visually impaired individuals. You can read The Unseen Report at the following link:

https://www.visionfoundation.org.uk/our-impact/research-and-campaigns/the-unseen-report/

We would like to include the experiences of blind and visually impaired people in our work and are offering the chance to share your experiences anonymously. The deadline to submit responses is 15 December. Anything that you share through this survey may be shared anonymously with the creative team and may be worked into the audio drama. We will take care not to include any details that may be personally identifying.

Question Title

* 1. Please tell us about your experience of a domestic abuse situation

Question Title

* 2. Did you face any barriers or prejudice due to your visual impairment when getting help or accessing services?

Thank you for your replies and for supporting our work on this project.

Additionally, Extant are also working with a partner organisation who work in domestic abuse, SafeLives. Heather Carmichael is their Lead Trainer and Assessor for the IDVA (Independent Domestic Violence Advocate) Qualification and is working to develop the following:

  • One Day Training programmes for individuals and organisations working with people with visual impairment who are experiencing Domestic abuse
  • A visual impairment ‘toolkit’ for practitioners with a quick guide to support.
SafeLives aim to always put the experiences and voices of Victim Survivors at the heart of all they do and would like your support to help identify how they can best meet the needs of Victim Survivors experiencing or having experienced abuse to ensure that services respond appropriately and improve accessibility, and resources to stay safe.
