ABOUT THE SHROPSHIRE AND TELFORD LOCAL HEALTH ECONOMY FORMULARY The combined local health economy formulary is the output of processes to support the managed introduction, utilisation or withdrawal of healthcare treatments in Shropshire and Telford. It is managed through the Area Prescribing Committee and applies to all prescribers across the local health economy including Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group, Telford and Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Group and Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust.

All NICE positively appraised medicines are automatically included within the formulary (where clinically appropriate). These medicines are available for clinicians to prescribe dependent on the services commissioned, in a way that supports safe and clinically appropriate practice. Prescribing responsibility is defined within the traffic light system.

The technology in a NICE technology appraisal may not be the only treatment for a particular condition. If a NICE technology appraisal recommends use of a technology, it is as an option for the treatment of a disease or condition. This means that the technology should be available for a patient who meets the clinical criteria set out in the guidance, subject to the clinical judgement of the treating clinician. The NHS must provide funding and resources when the clinician concludes and the patient agrees that the recommended technology is the most appropriate to use, based on a discussion of all available treatments.

The Medicines Management team are always happy to receive any feedback on the formulary. Please use the feedback button at the top of the page if you wish to contact us in relation to the formulary.
