A first pilot cohort of seven pharmacists have been credentialed by the RPS through the innovative pathway announced in March this year. The pathway is delivered by RPS in collaboration with NHS England Workforce, Training and Education Centre for Advancing Practice and the Centre for Pharmacy Post Graduate Education (CPPE).

These pioneering pharmacists have achieved a significant milestone in their careers, successfully demonstrating their advanced capabilities across the following domains:

  • Person-centred care & collaboration
  • Professional practice
  • Leadership & management
  • Education
  • Research

The successful pharmacists are now eligible for the Centre for Advancing Practice’s ‘Advanced’ digital badge and RPS members may use the modified membership affix MRPharmS (Advanced).

Joseph Oakley, Associate Director of Assessment and Credentialling at RPS said:

“We are immensely proud of this inaugural group of pharmacists who have successfully completed the pathway in England and are the first to achieve the RPS Core Advanced credential as well as gaining correspondent equivalence recognition from the Centre for Advancing Practice.

“These pharmacists have demonstrated their advanced capability across the four pillars of practice and evidenced the key role they play in the delivery of high-quality care to more complex patients.

“Their achievement not only showcases their own significant impact on patients and their organisations but also emphasises the evolving role of advanced pharmacists as integral members of the healthcare team, supporting the management of more complex patients across all healthcare settings.

“We are excited to continue working with the Centre for Advancing Practice and CPPE to support future cohorts of pharmacists through this pathway in England.”

RPS is committed to advancing the practice of pharmacy and supporting pharmacists in their professional development. The pathway represents a significant step towards this goal as it forms part of a clear post-registration career structure for pharmacists, assuring they have the capabilities to take on more advanced roles in patient care.

The submission deadline for the first open round of RPS advanced credentialing, open to pharmacists across the UK, closes on 8th October 2023.
