Paul Bodnar’s Post

Director at Bezos Earth Fund

As someone who has built my career at the intersection of finance and the net-zero transition, there has been no greater honor and challenge than leading sustainable investing at BlackRock. BlackRock has changed the way the financial sector thinks about sustainability. It was one of the first to recognize the potential for climate risk to reshape finance, and to help investors navigate and participate in that transformation. It has also been steadfast about the difficult realities of the transition and the need to retain a laser focus on fiduciary duty, even amidst intense public debates about whether asset managers are doing too little, or too much, to address climate change. I’m proud to be part of a team that has built the industry’s largest sustainable investing platform - over $500 billion and growing - and the analytical tools to advance BlackRock’s goal of helping more and more people experience financial well-being amidst a fast-changing global economy. After two years at BlackRock, the time has come for my next chapter. In April, I will join the Bezos Earth Fund to help lead its work on climate finance, industry, and diplomacy. The $10 billion philanthropic commitment made by Jeff Bezos to climate and nature is beginning to have a transformative impact, and I’m grateful to Andrew Steer and Charlotte Pera for the opportunity to join their small but mighty team. I look forward to harnessing my experience in finance, government, and the non-profit sector in this new challenge. Departing BlackRock is bittersweet. I will always be thankful to Larry Fink for his vision, to Philipp Hildebrand for his leadership, and to the dozens of colleagues whose intelligence, innovation, and skill is second to none in the financial services industry. I wish Jessica Tan and her team all the best as they continue to chart the course of BlackRock’s journey, and look forward to continued partnership in the future.
