As athletes competed across Birmingham yesterday, 271 creatives, technologists, and business experts gathered in the University of Birmingham's Exchange building, a Grade II-listed bank reimagined for the 21st century as a place of connection, discovery & learning. The Department for International Trade (DIT) has taken over the space during the Games, transforming it into UK House, a trade and investment hub showcasing the most innovative areas of the UK economy, including tourism, the future of mobility and food & drink. Yesterday it was the turn of CreaTech, with more than 50 speakers sharing insights on topics including the metaverse, creative content and the world's first 'technosport'. Tech Nation's George Windsor announced new analysis revealing that investment in UK CreaTech is on track this year to exceed the record $1.2bn attracted in 2021. The value of the UK CreaTech ecosystem has increased by 161% since 2017, while UK CreaTech employment has also risen by nearly 200%. Innovate UK's Esra Kasapoglu also announced plans for a new £30m programme to support the UK’s most innovative creative industries businesses. There were sessions exploring trading opportunities with India and a special focus on the vibrant CreaTech scene in the West Midlands, which is the UK’s fastest-growing tech sector.
