Engineering is at the heart of jahan.ai. 🧡 This week we put Aaron Tillekeratne, our Head of Engineering, in the spotlight and asked him about his thoughts on engineering excellence at jahan.ai: 🛠️ Engineering practice at jahan.ai - Q: What sets engineering practice apart from others? - Aaron: "Our engineering practices set us apart because many of our technology and development teams started in the enterprise arena. We know what enterprises need and consider while adopting products. This mindset makes a big difference". 🔒 Security and Privacy - Q: Can you elaborate on your approach to data security and privacy regarding the jahan.ai products and the ML platform? - Aaron: "At the core of our security approach is the “need-to-know” principle. We only get data that is absolutely tied to some customer outcome. A reduced data footprint results in a reduced risk footprint. We also undertake industry best practices around data security, such as data isolation, encryption and access. Security is a dynamic landscape, best security is being up to date with how threat actors evolve and adopting the appropriate techniques to mitigate them". 🌐 Scalability and Integration - Q: How are jahan.ai solutions designed to be scalable and integrate seamlessly with existing retail infrastructure? - Aaron: "Interestingly I think a lot of our team has an “enterprise” view when it comes to solution design and I think that has a lot to do with our backgrounds. We never design solutions piecemeal for one store, one product, or one use case, it's usually tens of thousands of stores, thousands of products, and the entire value chain of use cases which have to integrate with lots of other existing tools. This can mean that we think about models which are composable and parallelisable from the science layer as well as horizontally distributable in the infrastructure layer". 💻 The Julia Programming Language - Q: Why Julia programming language for the Forecasting engine? - Aaron: "The Julia Programming Language provides us with the ability to take advantage of the performance while not sacrificing usability. It brings us a lot of the advantages of C and C-like languages in terms of performance and ahead-of-time calculation, with the ease of use of languages like Python). I think it could make a difference for our customers". 🚀 Priority of engineering at jahan.ai - Q: What’s your current priority for engineering? - Aaron: "My priority this year is to make the jahan.ai machine-learning platform more consumable and accessible. Technical users can access it from the cloud and local machines, both intuitively and programmatically.
