"Patients and family members feel that it’s stigmatizing to have the cognitive impairment of #schizophrenia pointed out to them. That’s not the stigmatizing part. That’s a part of the illness. I think the stigmatizing part is to say ‘well, there’s nothing that we can do about this.’” Watch Dr. Jean-Pierre Lindenmayer and Dr. Richard Keefe discuss cognitive challenges patients with schizophrenia face and the impact it has on their day-to-day lives.

Proactive recognition and treatment of tardive dyskinesia (TD) can make a positive impact in the lives of many people managing their mental illness with antipsychotic medications. That’s why we are committed to working with all segments of the healthcare system – patients, care partners, advocacy organizations, healthcare providers, government and public health officials – to advocate for routine screenings for TD as the standard of care for at-risk patients. Tardive dyskinesia (TD) is a persistent, involuntary movement disorder that is characterized by uncontrollable, abnormal and repetitive movements of the face, torso, limbs, and/or fingers or toes. TD is associated with use of antipsychotic medication that may be necessary to treat individuals living with mental illnesses. That’s why #TDAwarenessWeek occurs during #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth, and we’re proud to help educate the community on TD. https://lnkd.in/g-atBE4x
