About us
Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides a broad range of general medical and surgical services for more than 400,000 people every year. Our mission: "Milton Keynes is a hospital committed to learning, to honesty, and to the best possible care and experience for every patient, every time." About us: Milton Keynes Hospital occupies a 60-hectare site to the south of the city centre. We are a medium sized district general hospital, serving Milton Keynes and surrounding areas. The hospital has approximately 400 inpatient beds, and provides a broad range of general medical and surgical services. We have a busy A&E Department that manages all medical, surgical and child health emergency admissions. As our local population grows, we continue to develop our facilities. In addition to providing general acute services, Milton Keynes Hospital increasingly provides more specialist services, including cancer care, cardiology and oral surgery. We have responsibility for treating premature babies born locally. Some of the babies we treat are born as early as 24 weeks old (16 weeks early), and weigh as little as 500 grams.

The results from the 2023 #NHSStaffSurvey were published today and once again, MKUH colleagues are amongst the most engaged in the country. The national survey, conducted with staff across all NHS acute and community trusts each year, is broadly classified into nine overarching elements and themes. More than 2,000 colleagues from MKUH submitted their feedback and the Trust performed above average in all nine categories. Joe Harrison, Chief Executive at MKUH, said: “I am pleased that so many colleagues have communicated their views this year, with the feedback being overwhelmingly positive. What is more pleasing is to see that responses have increased in some of the areas where colleagues stated we can do better which is why we actively encourage colleagues to get involved and share their views. “The feedback will be used to develop robust action plans at all levels of the organisation so that we can continue to make MKUH the best place to work as well as be treated as a patient.” For more information, visit our website: https://lnkd.in/eVaTbazE

As part of plans to increase the number of patients the hospital is able to see and treat, we have opened a new mobile theatre. The new mobile facility houses both a day case theatre as well as a dedicated short-stay recovery ward, ensuring patients can be seen and treated in the same location on the same day. The unit is located to the rear of Ward 24 and will allow us to perform a range of day case general surgery operations as well as some dental, urology and gynaecology procedures. Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH) is delighted to share its intention to expand its ward capacity through the development of a new facility at the hospital site. Responding to the needs of its growing community, MKUH is in the early stages of planning, to build a new ward block, named ‘Oak Wards’, to the east of the hospital, which would provide 48 new beds at the Trust. Joe Harrison, Chief Executive Officer at MKUH explains: “This development plays a pivotal role in providing a hospital that can meet the acute care needs of the growing city of Milton Keynes. We are enthusiastic about the prospect and the positive impact these plans promise to bring.” Should the Trust’s business case for ‘Oak Wards’ be approved, the hospital anticipates that construction would start late summer 2024, with an aimed completion date of December 2025.
