Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)

Government Administration

We help employers make safer recruitment decisions, and prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable groups.

About us

The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) is a non-departmental public body (NDPB) of the Home Office. DBS helps employers make safer recruitment decisions each year by processing and issuing DBS checks (previously known as criminal record checks) for England, Wales, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man. DBS also maintains the adults’ and children’s Barred Lists and makes considered decisions as to whether an individual should be included on one or both lists and barred from engaging in regulated activity. We operate from two sites, one in Liverpool and one in Darlington.
