As the dust settles on this year’s Ten Tors, Training Safety Officer for the Dartmoor Training Area, Crispin d’Apice shares a behind-the-scenes look at DIO’s supporting role in what is the largest outdoor youth activity event in the country: “Ten Tors has to be seen to be believed. Thousands of youngsters pushing themselves to discover new limits, proud parents cheering them on, all set in some of the harshest terrain in England. I did it three times as a boy and can still remember every mile!” 🥾🏕️ Read his Inside DIO blog here: https://bit.ly/3wClwEo #TenTors #Dartmoor #NationalParks #DefenceTrainingEstate British Army

🏠 Over 1000 Service family homes, which were previously empty, are back in use following extensive refurbishment. Works included rewiring, installing new heating systems, new doors and windows and internal redecoration. Other properties received new kitchens and bathrooms. The work is funded by a £400m additional investment in Service Family Accommodation and has been delivered by our contractors Amey, VIVO Defence Services and Mitie. The first families have already moved in and are enjoying their upgraded homes : https://lnkd.in/gAqdQNx2 #accommodation

On the National Day of Staff Networks, we are celebrating the great work done by the various staff networks across DIO. Our staff networks do inspiring work alongside their usual jobs, helping to make DIO a welcoming place to work for everyone and supporting under-represented and disadvantaged groups and individuals across the organisation. Networks help to create a culture where everyone, regardless of background, is confident to give their best self, have their effort and skills properly recognised, and their individuality and experiences respected. #NationalDayOfStaffNetworks #StaffNetworks

To the uninitiated, this may look like a hyperdrive engine from Star Wars, but it’s actually an unusual angle of a boiler firing up at RAF Lakenheath. It’s in one of the new facilities we’re providing for US Air Force F-35s, working with contractors Kier Group and VolkerFitzpatrick Ltd, along with Jacobs and Mott MacDonald. Maybe F-35s could give the Millennium Falcon a run for its money on the Kessel Run? #StarWarsDay #MayTheFourthBeWithYou

The range at Garelochhead Training Area may look like a normal firing range, but for a few weeks a year, at dusk and dawn, it becomes Scotland’s biggest dancefloor! Black grouse males like the short grass for their mating dance, known as the ‘lek’, while females watch nearby from the longer grass around the range. Our ecologist Lottie Birch has been keeping an eye on this year’s festivities: https://lnkd.in/e3P8hxBu

Throughout April, DIO teams have been offered support to mark Stress Awareness Month. 🧠 The awareness month takes place every year and encourages people to think about any factors which could cause them stress and ways to mitigate this risk. By being aware of the stresses that our teams can face in the workplace, and putting measures in place to help them deal with this, we can support our staff and help them continue to excel at work. This month, staff have been able to join sessions on: - Stress awareness, - Burnout and resilience, - Financial resilience, - Psychological health, - Tackling stress. But it's not just April when we support our colleagues; sessions like this take place all year round. Staff can find more information on Sharepoint. If you have any tips on how you deal with stress at work, please share them below. 👇 #StressAwarenessWeek #StressManagement #StressFree #MentalHealth

Staff from DIO and a number of our suppliers and contractors spent the day at Foxglove Covert, a Local Nature Reserve on MOD land in Catterick. The team, which included representatives from Amey, VIVO Defence Services and Pinnacle Group Limited, supported by the Foxglove Covert Foundation, were building 'leaky dams'. These slow down the flow of water when levels are high and maintain water courses, which are in important habitat. MOD Civil Servants are entitled to up to six days paid leave per year to use for volunteering. With our #DIOGivingBack initiative, we're encouraging staff to use their time to support good causes, especially our charity partners The Conservation Volunteers and Veterans Foundation. #JoinInFeelGood

On World Day for Safety and Health at Work, we're reflecting on what we do to continuously improve health and safety procedures for our colleagues. 👷♂️ 👷♀️ Here's just some of the work our dedicated Health and Safety teams have been up to in the last 12 months: - Introduced a Corporate Health and Safety induction course, - Held awareness training sessions for staff on how to report accidents or incidents at work, - Continuously reviewed DIO safety alerts, - Worked alongside the Naval Institute of Medicine to launch the DIO Stress Indicator Survey, - Launched a new campaign focusing on DIO employee safety. For more information about any of the above, DIO staff can check out the Health and Safety Sharepoint page. #HealthAndSafety #SafetyFirst #WorkplaceSafety #SafetyAtWork #SafetyProfessionals #MinistryOfDefence #MOD

The Ministry of Defence Guard Service has eleven new members joining the team! These puppies may look cute, but military working dogs play a significant role in ensuring the security of 11 MOD sites, mainly by acting as a deterrent. They are highly-trained and join our security officers on their patrols and on gate duty. Several of these dogs are already working with their handlers, while others are finishing their training. Both dogs and handlers undergo regular training and assessment to ensure they remain at the top of their game.
