About us
Policing the Square Mile brings with it particular challenges, quite unlike any other policing area within the UK. The City of London is the world’s leading international financial and business centre. It is an area where disruption to ‘business as usual’ would have significant impact on the diverse range of business interests located here. We are committed to fighting crime at all levels. Although we fulfil a national role tackling fraud and other serious criminality, our local role is no less important to us.

City of London Police cadets made lifelong memories in a trip to Paris, aimed at giving young people more international experience and opportunities to learn about policing outside the UK. The trip was all part of the signing and ceremony of an international working agreement between City of London Police cadets, Metropolitan Police Tower Hamlet cadets, France’s Gendarmerie cadets and Police Belgium cadets. This paves the way for more international exchanges and future trips between the three countries. It also allows the cadets to make friends and enhance their skills to help them in their future. The theme of this trip was Preventing Cyber Bulling and Cyber Crime, where all cadets gave a presentation on the topic and explained what each force is doing about this topic and how to help prevent it. The London cadets also had a tour of Paris, learning about the history and culture of France’s capital.

Criminals posing as police officers is common with courier fraud. They will try to convince you that you are helping an investigation by handing over money or purchasing gold. If this happens, hang up and dial 999. You can also make a fraud report at actionfraud.police.uk

This week we will be posting advice on what to do if you are targeted by criminals carrying out courier fraud. Courier fraud is when criminals contact victims by phone pretending to be a police officer or bank official. To support this claim, the caller might be able to confirm some easily obtainable details about the victim such as their full name and address. Victims are then asked to co-operate in an investigation by attending their bank to withdraw money or foreign currency from an exchange, or purchase an expensive item to hand over to a courier. At the time of handover, unsuspecting victims are promised that the money they’ve handed over or spent will be reimbursed but in reality, there is no further contact and the money is never seen again. The most important thing you can do, if you’ve been a victim of courier fraud, is to report it to Action Fraud. This is crucial to help police forces build a picture of this type of crime. You can make a report online at www.actionfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040. Call 999 if someone is on their way to your house to collect money and/or valuable items.
