Premature Baby

Having a premature or sick baby in hospital can be incredibly distressing for families.

We offer emotional and practical support to empower families and equip them with the knowledge and skills they need to provide the best possible care to their baby, for however long they live and for however long their stay in neonatal care.

We provide information about caring for premature and full term sick babies at every stage of their hospital journey, and after they have gone home.

Through our network of dedicated volunteers we provide face-to-face and email support, meaning families have access to practical information and a listening ear when they need it the most.

Families can also share experiences through the Bliss message board, hosted by Netmums, and read other family stories in Little Bliss magazine.

Communication Offer

Developing speaking, listening and communication is an important life skill. Support for children, young people and families around speech, language and communication development is provided by many local services in the community and by healthcare services. Support is achieved through collaborative working. The child, young person and family are supported within the context of the home, early years and educational settings, healthcare settings and the wider community.

Many children are supported to develop good speech, language and communication skills, others benefit from focused and/or specialist support for speech, language and communication needs.

The Communication Offer describes services in Leeds and resources that support families with their child’s speech, language and communication development whatever their level of need.

Online Support provides guidance on how to support the development of speech, language, and communication skills and also information about the ages and stages of speech, language and communication development. Click here to download the online support information.

Community Support provides a place-based approach to speech, language, and communication development (home, childcare setting, school, charities, and voluntary and community organisations). Click here to download the community support information.

Support for All is suitable for all children and young people. This support can prevent future problems by enabling parents to provide the best home learning environment and identifying children with suspected speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN). Where risk factors are present early, targeted support can be offered. Click here to download the support for all information.

Focused Support is suitable for some children and young people who require close monitoring of outcomes for speech, language, and communication. Additional support for the child or young person is provided by parents, early years or education practitioners and community groups guided by specialists e.g., speech and language therapists. Click here to download the focussed support information.

Specialist Support is suitable for those children and young people who have longer term speech, language and communication needs which require interventions or support. This level of provision is likely to involve multi-agency support in collaboration with education practitioners and parents. Click here to download the specialist support information.
