Jo is a Senior Associate in the Licensing & Gambling team.

Having significant experience in both public and private sector licensing, Jo advises on all aspects of alcohol entertainment and gambling law for pubs, clubs, restaurants, hotels, arcades, leisure complexes, off-licences, golf  and sports clubs, nightclubs, cinemas, theatres, outdoor events and festivals, wedding venues, entertainment venues, late night food venues and sexual entertainment establishments

Clients range from small independent businesses to breweries and iconic sporting venues. Jo deals with applications for premises licences and variations, reviews, transfers, designated premises supervisor variations, temporary event notices, personal licences under the Licensing Act 2003 and applications for licences and permits under the Gambling Act 2005.

Working with colleagues at Knights, Jo can assist with all legal aspects involved with the operation of licensed premises and gambling businesses.

Jo is also a British Institute of Innkeeping Awarding Body (BIIAB) nominated tutor and delivers the Award for Personal Licence Holder’s qualification course on a monthly basis.

Recent examples of how Jo has supported clients include:

  • securing a premises licence for a large outdoor event without the need for a hearing;
  • successfully overturning a council decision to suspend a premises licence following an expedited review;
  • negotiating the withdrawal of a noise abatement notice served on a large entertainment venue, and agreeing for a subsequent appeal to be withdrawn; and
  • providing advice and assistance to an international operator to facilitate gambling machine facilities in arcades at leisure parks.
