Story

I have the honour of taking part in this year's Courage on the Catwalk event, which showcases 24 wonderful women who have gone through a cancer diagnosis in North-east Scotland.

This event is organised by Friends of ANCHOR, who ensure North-east Scotland's cancer and haematology patients receive the best possible care, treatment and support through every bit of the journey. Every penny raised will help make a direct difference as all the charity’s running costs are covered by Balmoral Group.

As someone who went through a breast cancer diagnosis two years ago, I know first-hand how tough the journey can really be. Tougher than I often like to admit, even to myself, and without amazing charities like Friends of ANCHOR, it would have been that much harder. They provide so much care and support to cancer patients, from the welcoming faces at the hospital that always cheer you up, to the ongoing complementary therapies they offer, research into diagnosis, cures and treatments and also investing in leading technology that helps Aberdeen cancer care be what it is, and I’m sure they do so much more that I don’t know about.

I am grateful for the all-clear I received, but I know that the journey still continues for many others. That's why I'm participating in Courage on the Catwalk 2024. For those we have lost, those still battling and those who are yet to be diagnosed. I also think it will be an amazing opportunity, to be able to meet people in similar situations, gain some confidence back and also to spread a bit of my story, in the hopes to give someone at any stage of their journey a bit of hope that it can be beaten and you can get through this with help from loved ones and some positivity.

I also think it’s a great opportunity to spread awareness, I think we hear about cancer so much now that we are desensitised to is a bit and still never think that it will happen to us or our loved ones.. I certainly never thought I would be diagnosed with Breast Cancer at 26, but unfortunately it does happen, at any and all ages. You're never to young! Please if you take anything from this, check yourself, in the shower, or wherever, cop a feel and familiarise yourself with your body as this could of very well been the thing that gave me the edge in catching it early and beating this horrible disease that takes too many of us.

If you have anything you can spare then please do and if not please consider sharing the page. Thank you so much for reading and any contributions. 🙏

Your contribution will make a significant impact on making cancer patients' lives a bit easier and supporting vital research.

Together, we can make a difference! ❤️
