Story
I am taking on the 2023 London Landmarks Half Marathon to support King's College Hospital Charity!
King’s College hospital do amazing things. And one of those amazing things was saving my husband’s life back in July 2021. We were out with friends having watched the England vs Ukraine match. Nathan sat on a wall just outside their front door, then lost his balance and tumbled backwards onto the concrete stairs leading to basement flat below. He was initially taken to Ashford, where they identified 3 separate bleeds on his brain and the transferred him to King’s and they operated to remove about 1/3 of his skull to relieve the pressure on his brain. He was in a coma for about a week - where he had to have 1 to 1 care to increase his chances of surviving - and stayed in hospital for another 2 weeks. Then in March 2022 he went back into King’s so they could fit a titanium plate to replace his missing skull. He didn’t recover from this so well and spent longer in hospital than planned and had to be re-admitted. His care was exemplary at all times.
This is a happy story as Nathan has just been officially discharged. And I am running for King’s so they can continue to do the amazing work they do in saving lives and keeping families like ours together.
