Story
I am walking 100km (62 miles) from London to Brighton as part of a continuous endurance challenge (non-stop, over a day and a bit, with no sleep and minimal breaks), in aid of the Alzheimer's Society on the 25th May 2019.
Both my Nanna had and now my wife's grandmother has this terrible disease. Witnessing it first-hand has convinced me that more needs to be done to find a cure and to provide support for sufferers and their families.
As a young man I spent a lot of time in both London and Brighton. This journey now, is in many ways a modern-day pilgrimage, as I revisit the locations of my youth; partially, in an attempt to atone for my youthful inability to face my Nanna's deterioration, but more than anything to do something, in my own small way, to battle this disease.
I can't change the past but we can change the future.
The Alzheimer's Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, their aim is to create a society where those affected by dementia are supported, accepted and able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
