Easter service changes

During the Easter period, some of our services will be operating slightly different hours. Our council’s bin collection schedule will change for one week starting on Friday 29 March to make sure everyone’s waste is picked up around the bank holiday.

SHINE

Our Seasonal Health Intervention Network (SHINE) is a one-stop referral system for the NHS and third sector helping them provide affordable warmth and seasonal health interventions to residents in Islington

Call the energy advice team directly on 0800 953 1221 or 0207 527 2121 for support. Our lines are open 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday. Alternatively, text 07800 006 143.

For third party referrals, please refer a client to SHINE online - details are at the bottom of this page.

We will contact all referrals and discuss the broad range of services that your client is eligible for.

Interventions include:

  • advice on saving energy and grants available for heating and insulation
  • support with bills and energy debt
  • 'Energy Doctor in the Home' home visiting service
  • referrals and assessments for ECO/ECO-flex grants
  • falls assessments by the REACH Team
  • fire safety checks by London Fire Brigade
  • air quality alerts for people with respiratory diseases by airTEXT
  • handyperson service

Any vulnerable resident can be referred but some services have stricter eligibility criteria.

Energy Company Obligation (ECO) and Flexible Eligibility (ECOFlex)

ECO is a grant scheme that provides funding to install energy efficiency measures in the homes of households that are low income and vulnerable. The scheme is open to owner occupiers or private renters only.

Referral to SHINE

SHINE is run by Islington Council and available to any London household struggling to heat their home. The council will use the information you provide for the purpose of giving free energy advice and, where relevant, making referrals into suitable services.

We will share the information with other Council departments/external bodies – there are many service providers in the SHINE network who can offer support with benefits, home energy visits, fire safety, energy efficiency grants, falls assessments and much more to help keep you well and warm at home.
