What we're doing and why
- From February, we will be installing new signals on all three sides of the junction, including new pedestrian crossing provision across the mouth of North Road.
- We will install new street lighting at and through the junction, linking to the existing lighting at the A1(M) Junction 8 roundabout and in Graveley village.
- Additionally, we will lay new high friction road surfacing, to improve skid resistance on the North Road approach to the junction.
- Before then, from January, preparatory works to cut back and remove some trees will take place out of bird nesting season, in line with the Wildlife & Countryside Act. Some of these trees have been identified as deteriorating or dying.
- This is a road safety scheme to address a longstanding issue with collisions. We need to ensure that the illumination from the new street lighting reaches both the footway and the road, in order to improve safety, not just at the junction but also on its approaches.
Latest update (March 2024):
- The works have progressed well. Excavation and installation works for street lighting cables have been done, with most of the lighting columns now in place.
- Most of the pavement works, drainage and maintenance of the grass paving have been completed.
