Job overview

In collaboration with Dementia UK and supported by Surrey County Council, Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust are looking to recruit an exceptional registered nurse (adult/mental health/learning disability) with a passion for, and experience of, providing relationship-centred dementia care. The successful candidate will become an Admiral Nurse Clinical Lead responsible for the delivery of education and training of best practice in dementia care for care home staff within a specified group of care homes in West Surrey.

Admiral Nurses are specialist dementia nurses with expert knowledge of dementia care and the ability to role model person-centred, holistic care to other health and social care professionals caring for a person living with dementia with complex needs.

The post holder will have the ability to work flexibly across a variety of care homes and remotely, as required. They will have proven leadership skills with a strong sense of advocacy for the care provided to people living with dementia and their families/professional carers as well as impressive knowledge of bio-psychosocial interventions to improve the experience and quality of life for families facing dementia.

Main duties of the job

You’ll become a welcome part of a network of Admiral Nurses, and will have the opportunity to access relevant post-graduate training and develop professionally, informed by the Admiral Nurse Competency Framework.

The post holder will be managed by the Lead Admiral Nurse at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust but will be closely aligned to Adult Social Care commissioning, within Surrey County Council, under the Senior Commissioning Manager who will provide matrix management to the post holder and an additional Admiral Nurse (operating in the East/West of the locality). Surrey County Council will support the Admiral Nurses to shape, deliver and evaluate the education received by care home staff in dementia across East and West Surrey as part of this new service.
