Make changes to your .gov.uk domain name
How to modify and transfer your .gov.uk domain name.
Modify your domain name records
The registrar or Technical Point of Contact can contact the .gov.uk Approved Registrar to:
- update existing contact details
- change DNS records of your domain name
If you want to change your domain name you will need to submit a new .gov.uk domain application.
Transfer your .gov.uk domain name
You can transfer an active domain name from one:
- owner to another owner
- registrar to another registrar
To transfer your domain name to another owner you will need to show the Domains Team written permission from the current owner and the new owner.
If the organisation which registered the domain name does not exist anymore email domainmanagement@digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk.
If you transfer a domain name from one registrar or supplier to another, you need to make sure the new one is an approved .gov.uk registrar and offers multi-factor authentication. You do not need to involve your existing registrar in the transfer process. This includes if your registrar is no longer operating.
Email domainmanagement@digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk for more information.
