'Stop the spread' webinars

Due to the current avian influenza (bird flu) outbreak, maintaining effective biosecurity has never been more critical.

To help bird keepers find out what they can do to keep their birds free of the disease, leading Defra epidemiologists and veterinary professionals hosted webinar events between December 2021 and March 2022, covering:

  • the latest information on the national situation and the high number of cases in the North Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Leicestershire areas
  • essential biosecurity measures that all keepers of birds and poultry (pets or commercial) should be taking in these higher instance areas and the rest of the country

Each of the webinars provided an opportunity for attendees to ask questions about biosecurity best practice. We have published answers to the questions asked at the webinars.

Defra has previously held bespoke events for the following sectors. Registration has now closed for these events, however recordings of the webinars are available below.

Smallholder and hobbyist

Defra held webinars on 17 and 21 December 2021 and 12 January 2022.

Commercial producers

Defra held webinars on 16 and 20 December 2021 and 13 January 2022. Further events for the Gamebird sector were held on the 7 March 2022 and for all-year-round and seasonal turkey producers on the 10 and 11 March 2022.
