Extended Critical Appraisal (Diagnostic Studies, Screening for Disease and Qualitative Research)

This training is for anyone who wishes to develop their critical appraisal skills further, including those who are attending the Introduction to Critical Appraisal Skills session. Topics covered on the day will include; diagnostic and screening papers appraisal and appraising qualitative research.

These free, fully funded critical appraisal training sessions are provided for you by the North East London Primary Care Knowledge Specialist (NELPCKS) service. The NEL PCKS project is funded by Health Education England until January 2024 and is hosted by the NELFT Library and Knowledge Service.

This training will be open for the Primary Care workforce providing services in the London Boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, City & Hackney, Havering, Newham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets, and Waltham Forest. Training will also be open to NELFT Library and Knowledge Service subscribing organisations. Please use your NHS email to register for the training. Places are limited to 22.

Please ensure that you can commit to attending the entire session. In the event of non-attendance/no-show or late cancellation (i.e. less than two weeks prior to the course), attendees may be subject to a charge covering the cost of the training, £100.

About the trainer:

John Blenkinsopp is the Clinical Effectiveness Advisor at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust and has taught critical appraisal skills sessions for organisations such as the Royal Society of Pharmaceuticals, the British Medical Association, Kings Fund and Health Education England as well as numerous NHS trusts for many years. John will be available after the session from 16:30 – 17:00 for any support/tutorials or questions if required.
