Delivery of the PNA programme – June update

The Professional Nurse Advocate (PNA) central team would like to congratulate the 726 nurses who have completed their PNA training programme. These include students on the programme at the following universities:

• Canterbury Christchurch University
• University of Plymouth
• University of Hull
• University of Northampton
• University of Central Lancashire
• University of the West of England
• Keele University
• Anglia Ruskin University
• University of Derby
• Kingston University and St George’s University of London

Meanwhile the programme continues to roll out at pace across England. More higher education institute locations include The University of Sheffield, University of Wolverhampton, Birmingham City University, the University of Worcester, and the University of Northumbria.

We are now working with regional teams to allocate further spaces and priorities for the programme for PNA students, from September onwards.

Delivery of the PNA programme – May update

The programme delivery is now well underway. Critical care nurses from Canterbury Christ Church University, University of Plymouth and the University of Hull have finished their programme, with students now completing competency portfolios for their final pass.

A pilot site of 48 mental health students at the University of Northampton is underway, and a mixture of nurses from community, children and young people, mental health, critical care and safeguarding – have also begun the programme. These students are at the University of Derby, the University of the West of England, University of Central Lancashire, Kingston University and St George’s University of London, and the University of Worcester.

For the next phase of the programme rollout there are 280 ringfenced places for prisons, to allow PNA support in prison locations across England. We have also ringfenced a minimum of 250 places for international recruitment and will be inviting expressions interest for these imminently.  This leaves a remaining 3200+ PNA training places. These will be dispersed between the seven regions, to be ringfenced by regional leads to meet the specialty needs in their areas.
