Steven MacLean makes Ali McCann admission

St Johnstone coach Steven MacLean admits it might be "hard" for St Johnstone to keep hold of Ali McCann this summer.

The young midfielder enjoyed a stellar season with Saints which also saw him make his breakthrough on the international stage with Northern Ireland.

It's led to plenty of interest in his signature with Celtic among the clubs linked.

And MacLean told The Herald:

It will be hard to keep him,” he conceded. “I think if someone was to come in, the chairman and Callum have said that they will need to pay a big fee.

They will come in if he keeps performing and teams will be coming to watch him.

He will get everything he deserves as long as he keeps working hard. He will just get better and better.

If someone comes in to take him we will just have to move on. He will deserve it if he does get his move.

DONE DEAL! Kilmarnock sign Chris Stokes

Kilmarnock have announced the signing of Forest Green defender Chris Stokes on a free transfer.

The 30-year old centre-back joins the Rugby Park side on a two-year contract.

He told the Killie website:

This is a new opportunity for me and it’s one I’m really excited about. My talks with the manager and James Fowler were really positive and I wanted to be part of what they want to achieve with the club.

Most of the teams I’ve played for in my career have been pushing for promotion and I see this as an exciting new challenge.

I’ve kept an eye on Scottish football over the years and I know quite a few players who have played in the league including Michael O’Halloran, Elliot Frear and Marc McNulty so while I haven’t experienced it myself, it was important to me to get an insight into what it is like.

I’m a robust, physical player who likes to get stuck in and wear my heart on my sleeve. From day one, I will be giving my all for this club. That’s how I’ve gone about my game throughout my career and I can’t wait to get started now.

Inverness swoop for ex-County duo

(Image: SNS Group)

Inverness have launched an ambitious double bid to keep Michael Gardyne and Billy Mckay in the Highlands.

The pair are amongst head coach Billy Dodds’ top targets and have been offered deals by Caley Thistle.

Gardyne and Mckay are free agents after they were released by Ross County at the end of the season.

Mackay first arrived in Scotland at Inverness under Terry Butcher.

Interim boss Neil McCann tried to take Mackay back across the Kessock Bridge in January but was thwarted by the-then Staggies boss John Hughes.

He and Gardyne were then released by new County chief Malky Mackay.

Gardyne, however, was very much a County man.

He is their record goalscorer and appearance holder over his three spells in Dingwall.

Dodds has already signed Tom Walsh from Ayr United for a second stint in the Highland capital.

Man Utd eye new Pogba deal

(Image: Manchester United via Getty Imag)

Manchester United are reported to have opened talks with Paul Pogba over a new contract.

The Frenchman returned to the club in 2016 in a £100m move and has frequently been linked with a move away since.

Agent Mino Raiola has made himself a pantomime villain throughout his second spell at Old Trafford and boldly declared last year that his time at the club is "over."

But Pogba has stayed focused on his football and remained a key part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team in the second half of last season.

That has weakened speculation over his future and, with a year to run on his deal, Sky Sports are reporting the club have opened talks on a new contract.

Liverpool linked with Porto starlet

Liverpool have made an approach for Porto starlet Fabio Vieira according to reports in Portugal.

Jurgen Klopp is looking to refresh his squad this summer after failing to retain the league last season and needs a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum.

They are looking to add some youth to their ageing squad and Vieira, aged 21, fits the bill.

Correio da Manha say Liverpool have made an offer that could see Marko Grujic, who has been on loan at Porto this season, go in the opposite direction.

Vieira has a release clause worth €30m (£26m) but is out of contract in a year so could go for cheaper.

Lewis joins Livi

Adam Lewis has joined Livingston a season-long loan deal.

The 21-year-old Liverpool left-back is looking to impress at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

And David Martindale believes his new arrival could be his latets signing gem.

I am excited to bring a player of Adam’s quality in to the club. From the first phone call that led to me researching the player, I have had nothing but positivity about the lad. I really like what I have seen from the footage and the opinions I have had back on the player have all been very good.

Adam can play anywhere on the left-hand side but has played a lot at left-back. I think with the qualities he possesses, we will see him higher up the park influencing the game in the opponent’s half.

He has a great left foot and can look after the ball in tight situations. He is a competitor with a will to win and fits right into the ethos at the club.

He is taking a big chance by moving his young family up to Scotland which speaks volumes for the lad. I have no doubt we will be a good fit for one another.

It’s fantastic to be trusted with players of this calibre from one of the biggest football clubs in the world and hopefully this leads to further Liverpool FC prospects making their way up to Livingston FC. It’s a win-win for both parties as we get a player whom financially would not be on our radar and the player gets some much needed game time to progress and enhance their development in a very competitive league.

Options for Gilmour

(Image: Chelsea FC via Getty Images)

Scotland newcomer Billy Gilmour is said to be eyeing up a loan move away from Chelsea to further his development.

But where could he end up this summer? Record Sport takes a look at five options.

Brentford

Ambitious side have finally cracked promotion to the big time and play the game the right way.

West Ham

Credited with an interest but it would be hard to dislodge Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek in the Hammers double pivot.

Rangers

Where it all started for the 19-year-old and Steven Gerrard's side have been linked to plenty of midfielders already this window.

Swansea City

There are fewer restrictions on loaning players to second-tier clubs and last month's beaten play-off finalists could see Gilmour as the missing piece.

Vitesse Arnhem

Would be remiss not to mention the Eredivisie side where a litany of Chelsea loanees inevitably end up.
