Court arrangements for Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 September

Arrangements are now being made for a period of mourning following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, which will include a number of ceremonies in central Edinburgh in the coming days.

Courts across the country will continue with the majority of scheduled business, with sheriff summary and JP trials being limited due to availability of police witnesses.

If you have been cited to attend court you should still attend. Our Enquiry Point will be open from 8.30am on Monday and can be contacted on 0300 020 3000 or email _enquirypoint@copfs.gov.uk

Edinburgh Courts

It is anticipated that access to some areas in Edinburgh will be restricted with road closures and diversions causing delays for vehicles and pedestrians.

Therefore, the courts service have decided that High Court trials in Edinburgh will be adjourned or relocated outside the city where possible. Criminal appeals will be heard virtually. Court of Session business, where possible, will be heard virtually.

Edinburgh Sheriff Court may be affected by travel disruption and decisions will be taken on individual trials proceeding, with procedural matters being dealt with administratively where possible. Civil cases and the Sheriff Appeal Court will proceed virtually where possible.

Updates on any changes to scheduled business and operations during the mourning period will be published on the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service website.
