Description

The UK MOD and United Kingdom Space Agency (UKSA) joint Project BOREALIS has been initiated to develop the core systems for a civil-military National Space Operations Centre (NSpOC). The required software will generate Space Domain Awareness and Space Command and Control, combining and coordinating civilian and military capabilities to enable all Space Operations.

The BOREALIS system will process and collate information, across multiple classifications, up to Top Secret (TS), in order to monitor the space domain, conduct space operations and support timely decision making in collaboration with allies and partners. It will integrate multiple current and future systems and sensors as well as other data sources. It will incorporate the functionality of the current in-service system AURORA which will feed into BOREALIS and will need to be developed and supported alongside the creation of new system and functionality.

Rapid, flexible, iterative development of capability to meet the evolving demands of operators in a rapidly changing domain will be central to successful delivery. The project will therefore run using the Agile methodology; regular sprints will be held to detail the current priorities.

An Industry Day will be taking place in Bristol on the 12th July 2023. There will be 2 sessions during the day (Session 1: 10:00 - 13:00, Session 2: 14:00 - 17:00). At this event we will be providing detail on the capability roadmap, requirements, security, commercial strategy, and Agile delivery, with the opportunity to ask questions and provide comments. We encourage organisations to provide questions and comments before, during and after the industry Day (either via email or SLIDO) to help us ensure the requirements set in the competition are clearly understand, appropriate and achievable.

If your organisation would like to attend, please email DESSpace-DT@mod.gov.uk specifying your preferred session. Due to limitation on seating only 1 individual per organisation will be permitted. The event will be classified Official Sensitive and therefore is a requirement for confirmation of extant Security Clearance (BPSS as a minimum) to be provided and checked prior to attendance at the event. Your registration will only be confirmed once checks have been completed. Information from the event can be shared with Organisations not meeting the minimum-Security Clearance who are unable to attend the event. The closing date for confirming attendance and providing SC clearance will be 17:00hrs (BST) Thursday 6th July 23.
