The Birmingham Canals Clean-up weekend is a great opportunity to have fun and meet new people while clearing shopping trolleys, tyres, bicycles and even more exciting treasures from the canal. This annual event on the Birmingham Canal Navigations helps keep the less well used parts of these waterways from getting choked up with rubbish and becoming impassable for boats.
WRG volunteers are supported each year by volunteers from the Inland Waterways Association, Birmingham Canal Navigations Society, Canal & River Trust, Friends of Tipton Cut and local residents.

FAQs
The Birmingham Canals Clean-up will take place on the Birmingham Canal Navigations.
Using grappling hooks, volunteers will patrol the canals and fish out the many treasures hidden below the surface. Lots of interesting ‘treasures’ were pulled out of the canal including bikes, an electric guitar, a gas barbecue, a mountain of tyres and of course lots and lots of shopping trolleys! There is the option of litter picking as well as grappling hooks. Equipment and gloves will be provided.
In 2019, more than 60 volunteers spent two days removing an estimated almost 30 tonnes of rubbish between Gosty Hill and Blowers Green on the Dudley No2 canal in the Black Country. In some years, this total has been closer to 50-60 tonnes!
Friday evening at 6pm.
Saturday and Sunday breakfast; Saturday and Sunday lunch and Saturday evening meal for campers is about £18.
