Detectives investigating a serious assault in Liverpool City
Centre in the early hours of Sunday 4 July are re-appealing for witnesses to
come forward.   At around 3.40am, we received a report from North West Ambulance Service that
at 3.29am a 23-year-old man had suffered a cardiac arrest after being assaulted
by a group of three men during an altercation on Hanover Street.  He remains in a critical condition in hospital.  It was alleged that the victim was punched by the offenders outside City Buffet
restaurant before collapsing. The offenders are reported to have left the scene
in a blue and pink coloured Hackney cab.   Police have arrested a 37-year-old man from Liverpool on suspicion of Section
18 assault. He is in custody for questioning by detectives.  A full investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing to trace the
offenders involved. Police are particularly keen to speak to any taxi drivers
from the nearby Hackney cab rank on Hanover Street, in case they have vital
dashcam footage.  Inspector Gavin Mulcahy said: “We are working tirelessly to identify
and bring to justice those responsible for this shocking and tragic incident.  "We appeal to anyone who has information to come forward as soon as
possible. If you're a driver who was in the area of Hanover Street at the time
of the incident, between 3.25am and 3.35am - let us know if you have dashcam
footage which could help further our investigation."   Drivers can upload dashcam footage to be viewed by police via the NICE
