With the recent events in Afghanistan and the relocation of those Interpreters and embedded civilians who supported our British Armed Forces, many are arriving in the UK with the same injuries and traumas that our veterans face. At Help for Heroes, we have the expertise, knowledge and skills to provide the support they need and deserve. To do this, we need to increase our capacity so that we can deliver these services to them and their families.

About You
Are you a Psychologist or CBT Therapist who is passionate about delivering the best psychological support to your clients? Do you believe in striving to achieve the best psychological support for client and therapist alike? We are looking for Clinical/ Counselling Psychologist/ HI CBT Therapists specialising in trauma to join our Hidden Wounds Service. Hidden Wounds supports the beneficiaries of Help for Heroes charity to address their mental health needs with professional psychological services. We recognise those hidden wounds and are ready to help by offering a safe place to be heard, be seen, and helped to recover from psychological wounds.
About the Role
We are delighted to be able to offer this newly created post as a 12 months fixed-term contract. It has been created specifically in response to increased service demand arising from the UK settlement of LEC (Locally Embedded Civilians) Afghan nationals who have worked under the command of British armed forces and who may be wounded, injured or sick from their time in service.
At Help for Heroes, we appreciate trauma is often a systemic phenomenon and as such offer to support to families of our beneficiaries as a part of our holistic recovery service offer. This gives you the opportunity as a Psychological Therapist within the Hidden Wounds Service, to work therapeutically with the individual, their family when appropriate, and in liaison other stakeholders as required.
Whilst the role is advertised as full-time (35hours per week), we are also welcoming applications for part-time hours at a minimum of 3 days per week (21 hours per week).
About the Team
As a Psychological Therapist specifically assigned to work with our LEC beneficiaries you will be key part our Hidden Wounds Service. Hidden Wounds is a well-established, successful, and aspirational psychological service providing assessment and psychological interventions to UK military veterans and their adult family members, including Locally Embedded Civilians resettled in the UK through the ARAP (Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy) scheme.
We are a service that prides itself on delivering the best quality of psychological care to our beneficiaries being driven by evidence-based practice with scientific rigour and compassion at the core of our delivery model. We believe in remaining current in all our approaches and as such remain active in contributing to and developing research in our specialist area.
