About Us

Protecting our communities. This is our mission.

Policing is fundamentally about working with people. Ensuring we treat everyone with fairness and respect, in every interaction, both within our communities and our organisation is one of our core values.

Preventing and thoroughly investigating crime, supporting victims and bringing offenders to justice.  These commitments require us all to be courageous and do the right thing and cannot be achieved by any one person alone; it relies upon a team of over 8,500 staff, officers and volunteers, working alongside partner agencies and the public.

Policing evolves along with the challenges we face and we strive to improve every day.  New digital technologies and ways of working are transforming the way we deliver our service and to do so at the highest standard, means we require the very best talent to join our TVP family.

Policing is a unique and rewarding career.  This is your opportunity to take on a role with pride and confidence, inspiring change so we can become an excellent police force trusted by all our communities.

We are proud to be Thames Valley Police and you will be too.

TVP – Year in Review 2022-2023

Our patch

Our patch is as diverse as they come – historic cities meet vast rural spaces. Cutting-edge organisations work alongside world-class universities. 2.4 million people call it home and 6 million visit each year. There are 11 local policing areas (LPAs) within the geographical area of Thames Valley Police, located in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.

There are four football league clubs and annual high-profile events including Royal Ascot, Reading Festival and Henley Regatta to keep an eye on.

We’re home to Windsor Castle and the PM’s country residence Chequers – which means we’re also home to a Protection Group of armed officers second only in size to the Metropolitan Police. This means we often rise to unique challenges like the Royal weddings, funerals, coronations and Presidential visits, with millions of people around the world watching on.

We also host two specialist regional units, Counter Terrorism Policing in the South East (CTPSE) and the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU). These units work across the South East, and include officers and staff from Thames Valley Police, Hampshire Constabulary, Kent Police, Surrey Police, and Sussex Police.

Doing the right things, in the right way, for the right reasons

On 24 January 2024, the College of Policing published a new national Code of Ethics to reflect the challenges of modern-day policing whilst outlining the professional behaviours that the public can expect to see from officers, staff and volunteers.

Designed to underpin the policing sector, the Code of Ethics outlines the professional behaviours from a service that is fair, ethical and can be trusted to make decisions in the interest of keeping the public safe. The new Code aligns and helps to underpin Thames Valley Police’s own vision of being an excellent police force trusted by all our communities.  As part of any new starter’s training/induction, you will receive a bespoke input about the Code of Ethics and how it applies to your everyday working practices.
You can read the Code of Ethics and find further information and resources about it, on the College of Policing website.
