Bury Public Health Self Care Guide

Bury Public Health Self Care Guide

What is Self Care

According to the International Self-Care Foundation, self-care is what people do for themselves to establish and maintain health, and to prevent and deal with illness through self-medication and social prescription.

Self Care is about helping you take control of your health and wellbeing.

Whilst we all need help from healthcare services from time to time, we are the real experts when it comes to our own health and wellbeing.

Whether we want to have a healthier lifestyle, enhance our mental wellbeing, know how to treat minor ailment and seek help when you need it, or better manage our long-term health problems, then the simple changes we make for ourselves can make a big difference: that’s self care.

Whatever your age, looking after yourself is vital to staying fit, healthy, and independent for as long as possible.  It is your own responsibility to look after your own health and in doing so, you are less likely to develop health conditions which make you reliant on health services.

Self care isn’t just about living for longer.  In fact, it’s actually more about being healthy for longer.  A healthy body and mind means we get to live life to the full, with fewer limitations on what we do and how we do it.

The Bury Directory has many community groups which are available within the borough of Bury to empower you and your family to live a happier and healthier life, living as independent as possible, whatever your circumstances.
