Welcome to the Tower Hamlets Tall Buildings Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) consultation page.

The Council's public consultation of the Tower Hamlets Tall Buildings SPD has ended. The consultation was live from Friday 17th December 2021 - Friday 4th March 2022. Submitted representations will now be considered as part of the SPD process.

The Tall Buildings SPD is a proposed planning document that will add guidance to the design, location and development of tall buildings and address the overall impact that this development can have on local residents.

The SPD has been developed with Urban Initiatives Studio and will support the delivery of the Tower Hamlets Local Plan (2020) and the London Plan (2021).

Aims:

We are looking for your feedback to help shape our Draft Tall Buildings SPD.

This SPD will assist in managing tall building proposals by setting out a theoretical framework for assessment, a spatial analysis, contextual information, and principles, objectives and application requirements applicable to tall building proposals.

How can you get involved?

You can tell us your views by:

1. Completing the Online Survey -

The survey goes through the draft SPD and provides an opportunity for comments on each chapter of the document.

2. Attending an Online Webinar -

Project officers will be holding four online webinars relevant to different areas of the borough where they will run through a presentation on the draft SPD. The location of these four areas can be found in the map below.

Each webinar will introduce the document and give an overview of the supporting principles, objectives, assessment tools and area-specific guidance.

There will be time for you to give comments or ask the officers your questions. These four webinars will be hosted on Microsoft Teams and can be accessed from the links below:

3. Drop-in sessions -

Officers will also be hosting 'drop-in' sessions where project officers will be available to answer any questions or queries you might have on the project. The 'drop-in' sessions will be held during the following times:

  • Online drop-in session on Thursday 3 February (12.00-3.00pm) - Please email localplan@towerhamlets.gov.uk to book a 15-minute slot to speak with an officer.
  • Online drop-in session on Tuesday 22 February (12.00-3.00pm) - Please email localplan@towerhamlets.gov.uk to book a 15-minute slot to speak with an officer.

4. Providing written comments to the council -
