Following the sad death of The Queen we are providing information in this email about commemoration services and changes to our services as a result of the bank holiday on Monday 19 September.

Books of Condolence

All books of condolence will close at 6pm on Tuesday 20 September.

Town Hall
  • Friday 16 September 8.30am - 5.30pm.
  • Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 September 11am - 2pm.
  • Monday 19 September - 12.30pm - 3.30pm.
Stocksbridge Town Council

Tuesday 20 September 10am-2pm

Bradfield Parish Council

Friday 16 September 10am - 2pm

Ecclesfield Parish Council

Friday 16 September 9am - 12pm

You can also sign an online book of condolence.

All separate books of condolence will be joined together to create a single book at the end of the mourning period.

Floral tributes

Floral tributes following the death of The Queen can be left in the designated area in the Peace Gardens in front of the Town Hall.

Commemorative Service Sheffield Cathedral

Sheffield Cathedral invites all to attend a commemorative service on Sunday 18 September, 6pm with a National Moment of Reflection at 8pm.

Cathedral seating is limited and there is no reserved seating, but the service will be shown on a large screen outside the cathedral on the forecourt. It will also be streamed online on the Cathedral's Facebook page and YouTube.

You can find public transport information on the Travel South Yorkshire website. Students begin their return to the city this weekend so traffic may be heavier than usual in some areas.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II funeral

On Monday 19 September Sheffield Cathedral will be screening the funeral of The Queen on a big screen inside and outside the Cathedral. All are welcome.

The Cathedral doors will open from 8:30am with morning prayer at 8:45am.

Our services over the bank holiday

A number of council services will be affected by the bank holiday, some of the key services affected are listed below.

Bin collections and Household Waste and Recycling Centres

Anyone who usually has their bin collected on a Monday should put their bin out by 7am on Saturday 17 September for collection. If your bin is missed on Saturday please contact Veolia by end of the day Wednesday 21 September.

All household waste and recycling centres will be closed on Monday 19 September.

Customer Services

Our customer services team will be operating a bank holiday service on Monday 19 September. If your enquiry is not an emergency please contact them between 8am and 6pm Tuesday - Friday.

Museums, Galleries and Leisure Centres

Winter Garden - open on Monday 19 September

Sheffield Museums - all closed on Monday 19 September

Leisure centres and golf courses - all closed on Monday 19 September

Funeral Services

Funerals which are already arranged for Monday 19 September will continue as planned. A small team will also be on stand-by for short notice funerals where required.

Sheffield Markets

The Moor Market, Crystal Peaks Market and the Moor outdoor market will all close on Monday 19 September.

Libraries

All Libraries and Archives services will be closed on Monday.

Council Housing

The housing repairs service will be operating with a much smaller team on Monday 19 September with staff providing a voluntary service on the day.

Some emergency repairs and some scheduled work will take place and tenants will be notified of this to make sure that they are happy for the work to go ahead.

Other work will be cancelled and rescheduled and tenants are being contacted to arrange this.

Amey/Streets Ahead

Amey teams will be working reduced bank holiday hours on Monday 19 September. They will support the commemorative service and screening of the state funeral.


Town Hall Flag

Flags will remain at half mast until the end of the mourning period. The flag will be raised to full mast on 20 September.
