The exciting first phase of a transformational redevelopment of Frimley Park Hospital starts on Monday 30 January with the demolition of our old medical records building, making way for a new £47 million building.

The new three-storey modular building will provide state-of-the-art diagnostic facilities, a large increase in beds as well as a significant improvement in the range of beds. Because it is linked to the main building, access and delivery of services will be easier and more efficient.

This new building represents a significant investment and will play an important part in our ambitious plans and ongoing commitment to deliver first-class patient care, and will offer:

• 74 inpatient beds – two storeys offering a combination of single rooms and four-bed bays
• Dedicated breast care diagnostic and outpatient unit - providing a ‘one stop’ service in a much-improved modern environment
• State-of-the-art imaging centre - providing increased capacity and capability with the latest diagnostic imaging equipment (comprising three CT scanners, two MRI scanners and two gamma cameras), all within comfortable, purpose-built accommodation

The new building is scheduled to be ready for use by late summer 2024, creating extra, much-needed space and a greatly improved environment for patients and staff. The additional beds, including far more single beds, will help us reduce elective waiting lists, allow us to better cope with Covid and seasonal pressures, and enable ward refurbishments and remedial work for areas affected by RAAC (reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete).
We will do all we can to mitigate disruption, however we recognise that there will be some and we thank our patients, visitors and staff for your understanding while we work hard to deliver these improvements.
For more information about what this means for you and what steps we are taking to mitigate the disruption, please see our website.

What this means for patients and staff

• During the demolition works there will be some noise, vibrations and dust, particularly during the first week of demolition, which we will work hard to minimise.
• We will work closely with our imaging teams to ensure that there is no impact to services.
• There will be clear signage throughout the hospital to keep patients and visitors informed and safe during these essential works.
• The pedestrian access surrounding the demolition area will be closed to ensure the safety of staff, patients and visitors. This will also allow us to maintain a smooth flow of traffic into the rear of the site.

What we are doing to minimise the impact of this building work

• There will be clear signage directing people through the diverted routes.
• We will be using dust suppression techniques, keeping dust to a minimum.
• We will keep our website updated with any key information that visitors to Frimley Park Hospital need to be aware of. Work has already started on the area opposite the demolition site to create a new access road that will ensure traffic flow is maintained throughout the building works.
