The non-profit organization is planting more than 67 different native tree species in northwestern Madagascar. The trees are planted on different planting sites, ranging from mangrove estuaries to tropical dry deciduous forests. Healthy native forests are evolving, creating a home to more than 200,000 species of plants and animals that don’t exist anywhere else in the world.

By employing local people to plant trees, Eden's reforestation projects in Madagascar create sustainable income and help alleviate the extreme poverty in the area. Their work creates healthy native forests that support a variety of species, countering climate change and biodiversity loss.

The trees are planted in northwestern Madagascar all year round. The reforestation of mangroves along the coastline is stabilizing it from erosion, protecting the coastal communities from storms and other weather events. In the upland the reforestation of dry deciduous forests restores eroded land and protects it against flooding. These forests also expand vital habitat for wildlife.
