About our Project

Approximately 5,000 people every year are diagnosed with HIV in the UK. Using anti-retroviral medications can reduce the risk of catching HIV or giving HIV to someone else. However, little is known about what is it like for people to use these medications every day, what motivates people to use them or what barriers there are to accessing treatment. This project hopes to understand how people, including patients, professionals and members of the public, feel about using these medications

Big Queer Science Show

A sold out night!

A night of shamelessly queer science shows, performance artists, burlesque, drag acts and more to celebrate international LGBTQ+ person in STEM day on the 18th November 2022.

Drag artists, researchers, and performance artists took to the stage in an incredibly gay variety show all interpreting the theme of 'science' in their own way. There was glitz, glam and fun as local performers including Veggie Stripper, Mama Rhi, Frida Sapphic and more joined researchers from Newcastle University and beyond to explore science in weird and wonderful ways.

Hosted by Drag Idol 2022 winners Bonnie Love & Ben Dover, come together at a private venue at Brinkburn Brewery for drinks, laughs and gay performance. Then stay as Bonnie Love takes on the DJ booth for an afterparty of camp tunes and power ballads!

Full list of performers to be announced on twitter @EngageFMS, for any questions contact fms.engagement@ncl.ac.uk

Organised and Produced by Charlie Wilkinson, Newcastle University
