Green Space Dark Skies

April – September 2022

Magical moments and memorable films created in some of our most glorious landscapes – a celebration of the UK’s great outdoors.

Outdoor artworks created at dusk in our countryside by thousands of people from all paths in life

A UK-wide celebration of nature, our responsibility to protect it – and everyone’s right to explore it

Explore, enjoy, protect

Green Space Dark Skies is a journey into some of our most spectacular natural landscapes – celebrating both our right to roam through it and our responsibility to take care of it.

Thousands of people became Lumenators in spring and summer 2022 – equipped with special high-tech, low-impact lights. Meeting at National Parks, National Scenic Areas (NSAs), Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and other breathtaking locations, the Lumenators then journeyed into the landscapes at dusk to created extraordinary outdoor artworks with their lights – captured on camera in a series of beautiful and powerful short films.

Green Space Dark Skies is inspired by the 90th anniversary of the Kinder Scout Mass Trespass, which fell in 2022. This pivotal moment helped to bring about public access to the countryside – and inspired the creation of the UK’s network of National Parks.

The result of these extraordinary journeys is 15 beautiful filmed artworks: one film created in each of the first 14 locations, plus a finale filmed at the four highest peaks in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales – Scafell Pike, Slieve Donard, Ben Nevis and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon). You can watch each film online for free.

Fantastic day from start to finish. Such a great atmosphere from everyone. Would do it all again in a heartbeat.
