Description
How an adult survivor of child sexual abuse may parent, if their own trauma remains unresolved. How the non-abusing parent may react if a disclosure is made about their partner. Different types of sexual abuse, including online exploitation and how parents can address this ever-increasing concern.
This course will also address various issues identified within the Capacity and Ability to Supervise and Protect Risk Framework, McGibbon and Leonard, 2019.
The PDSCP is committed to culturally competent safeguarding practice. We include the importance of cultural competence within our course content and explore what this means for practitioners. Outcomes
Parents’/ carers’ reactions when sexual abuse is suspected or identified including working with them when they are traumatised and in denial about sexual abuse taking place.
The impact of child sexual abuse on parents/ carers and other children in the household including where:
The child was sexually abused by an adult in the family environment The child was sexually abused by a trusted adult outside the family environment The child was sexually abused by a group of adults The child was sexually abused online Understanding of the keyways to support and challenge parents/carers including where they have particular needs such as: Parents from different ethnic backgrounds, religions and cultures – including those whose first language is not English Parents experiencing domestic abuse Fathers Parents with learning disabilities/difficulties Parents experiencing other forms of stigma and discrimination.
