GP Practice monthly update - February 2023

Dear Colleague,

Welcome to this month's PCSE GP Practice monthly update. We would like to share the following important updates with you:

End of Year pension certificates

Deadline reminder

GPs and non GP Partners who are members of the NHS Pension scheme are reminded that the deadline for submitting 2021/22 Type 1 and Type 2 End of Year certificates is 28 February 2023.

Using PCSE Online to submit a Type 1 or Type 2 form saves time compared to downloading a form from NHS Pensions’ website to complete and submit to us, and helps to avoid any errors or delays.

Support and Guidance

We have recently hosted a number of webinars to help GPs and non GP Partners complete their End of Year forms on PCSE Online.
  • To view the webinar for Type 1 Annual Certificates, please click here
  • To view the webinar for Type 2 Self Assessments, please click here
We have also created an easy-to-follow Type 1 and Type 2 Step by Step Guide to help members complete the end of year process successfully. You can find this guide here.

Please remember all submissions must be made accurately, and in full, by the deadline in order to be successfully processed in time for NHS Pensions’ annual Total Rewards Statement refresh in August.

Any late submissions will be included in the mid year refresh which is normally available in December.

You can find more information in the special End of Year bulletin found here.

Which GPs need to complete a Type 2 self assessment?

We have received a number of queries from GPs who only perform solo work or locum work asking if they need to complete a Type 2 self assessment.

GPs who undertake Solo work or Solo and Locum work do need to complete a Type 2 self assessment.

GPs who undertake Locum work only do not need to complete a Type 2 form.

Click here for clarity on which form a GP needs to complete depending on the type of work they do.

2021/22 Annualisation Calculator

NHS Pensions have now published the 2021/22 Annualisation Calculator found here.

NHS Pension Scheme members who have any questions relating to Annualisation should refer to guidance issued by NHS Pensions found here.

2021/22 End of Year payments made by practices

Practice Managers and Administrators are reminded that an End of Year Payment Template must be completed and submitted to PCSE if a payment is made to NHS England for a GP or non GP partner whose contributions for 2021/22 were under paid as a result of the income on the Annual Estimate submitted being lower than the actual income for the year.

Details of the Year End Payment process can be found in the Type 1 and Type 2 Step by Step Guide here.

The End of Year Payment Template can be found here.
