Jamie Horrocks Trust

The trust raises funds in Jamie’s name for community based projects that reduce the risks and support those affected by suicide.

More recently the trust has gained full charity status and is registered with the Charities Commission.

How does your organisation contribute to preventing suicide and supporting those affected by it?

The trust aims to fund and support campaigns and partnership work which reduce the risks associated with and support the impact of suicide by;

– Encouraging the uptake of activities and sports for individuals/groups that may be at risk of mental health issues and/or drug and alcohol issues

– Raising awareness of the risks associated with mental health and/or alcohol and drug issues

– Equipping and training employers to support employees who may be at higher risk of suicide due to any demographic and employment profile

– Improving the awareness of mental health issues and addiction in the workplace, so colleagues and employers can identify individuals at risk and signpost to support services

– Improving and developing better ways of identifying and supporting people bereaved by suicide in a timely manner which put the needs of the bereaved at the centre of the process by establishing a suicide support service.

What are your current priorities?

Our current priority is establishing a Community Based Youth Mental Health Network which is focusing on those organisations who deal with young people on a day to day basis.

We are providing Youth Mental Health First Aid training to individuals who have been identified as Mental Health Leads along with ways of helping young people with their mental health resilience. We see this as a longer term project around suicide prevention.

We are also working in schools to educate staff on how to support students who present with mental health problems or suicidal intentions.

What challenges are you currently facing?

Being a small charity, funding for us is a challenge.
