The HCSA Summer Conference this year will be held at a new venue in Nottingham, Eastwood Hall - After a successful 2022 we are hoping, this year, to see even more delegates attend than last year, which saw over 170 attendees and received excellent feedback following a packed agenda.

SPEAKERS




David Lawson



Newly appointed Med Tech Director for DHSC with responsibility for setting the direction of future UK Med Tech policy. Launched the Government’s first strategy for Medical Technology in February: Right Product, Right Place, Right Price.  

Member of the Life Science Council Medical Devices Regulatory Advisory Group which published re-set proposals in March.  Previous Chief Procurement Officer for 21 years at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.    





Andrea Smith



Andrea is a Commercial Leader with 25+ years of experience of delivering strategic and operational performance improvements within a commercial and procurement capacity in both public and private sector. 

Andrea has worked within the NHS in South Yorkshire since 2014 and prior to that was in Leicester.  Her role now covers Sheffield Teaching and Children’s Hospital and procurement leadership across South Yorkshire ICS.  

Andrea sits on various regional and national procurement groups and is a CIPS Fellow. As a HCSA national council member Andrea is passionate about supporting the next generation of Procurement Leaders to progress and become our Healthcare leaders of the future. 

 


Andrew Daly



Andrew is a Partner and Head of Procurement within Hempsons LLP's specialist procurement team, with over 20 years’ experience of working with the NHS, acting for contracting authorities and bidders. 

Andrew provides pragmatic advice on running defensible processes/defending procurement challenges. Andrew led on one of the first innovation partnership procedures and regularly advises on designing and structuring processes and drafting procurement documentation. He acted for the commissioner in defending the first NHS v NHS procurement challenge to reach the courts. 




Andy McMinn



In April 2023, Andy returned to the NHS as Commercial Executive Director at NHS Supply Chain.   

 

Andy started life as an engineer working twenty years in the marine and manufacturing sectors. It was in manufacturing that Andy specialised in international supply chain management, global sourcing, and business improvement. Working for a 1st tier OEM to blue chip consumer electronics giants HP, Dell and IBM. Between 2007 and 2021 Andy held a variety of senior NHS commercial roles in Trusts and at Regional and National levels.  

Andy was the Chief Procurement Officer at University Hospitals Plymouth where his team was ranked No 1 in the Carter provider procurement league table.  Andy joined NHS England and Improvement in 2017 and was responsible for the Secretary of State commissioned NHS Nationally Contracted Products programme. He also created NHS Spend Comparison an NHS wide price benchmarking solution.  

Since 2021 Andy has worked for the Cabinet Office as Category Management Director for the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) Group Commercial. He had responsibility for commercial strategies and sourcing across a variety of funds, programmes and policy areas.




Chris Holmes



Chris has worked within the NHS for over 20 years in a variety of senior procurement and supply chain roles,. This has included the management of the procurement and customer related activities undertaken by NHS Supply Chain. 

 Prior to joining the NHS Chris spent 9 years in private industry, working for retail clients in the manufacturing sector. 

 Chris has a Master’s degree in Business Administration that focuses on business and supply chain strategy and a post graduate professional diploma in management.  Chris is a member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (MCIPS). 




Janice Nelson



Janice Nelson is a Registered Nurse, Midwife and Health Visitor and Specialist Practitioner in Public Health. 

With extensive public health knowledge and experience in various roles as a Public Health Programme Manager, she is passionate about change management and value-based procurement. Janice also champions and leads, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Procurement. 

 



Chris Slater MBE



Chris previously worked at Leeds for 18 years as Commercial & Procurement Director  during which time he developed the procurement and supplies function at Leeds to become one of the most respected teams in the NHS. The team now provide a crucial supply chain function and provide advanced inventory management solutions throughout the hospitals. 

Whilst at Leeds Chris implemented the Scan4Safety project utilising the GS1 standards and is now advising on a wider West Yorkshire roll out. Currently he is the ICS procurement lead for West Yorkshire. 

Prior to joining the NHS he worked in telecoms in the private sector and prior to that local government all within the procurement functions.
