NHS InSites Programme

Real world testing and evaluation to help spread innovation across the NHS

About us

What is NHS InSites?

In 2020, the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme (CEP) was commissioned out to Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) with a commitment to expand and enhance the CEP in line with the commitment made in the NHS Long Term Plan. This included recruiting NHS partners to support the testing of innovations in real-world settings. This partnership has since evolved to form a system capacity-building pilot programme – now known as the NHS InSites Programme.

Our aims

Programme aims

The testing and evaluation model has been co-developed by the participating Innovation Sites (InSites), NHS England, and Mid and South Essex (MSE) ICS – who host the Programme Management Office and Coordination Hub for the NHS InSites Programme.

This collaborative and co-designed programme has five aims:

Innovation Sites

18 NHS sites across England have partnered together to design and deliver the first two phase of the NHS InSites Programme.

Innovation Sites

The 18 sites span across England and are working with the NHS CEP, MSE InSites Coordination Hub and NHS England to align processes, share intelligence on implementation, build capability within their sites and test/evaluate innovations to meet the needs of their populations. In its first year, the programme led to 23 projects in evaluation or contracted projects with another 29 projects in initiation phase.
