Peace is more quickly obtained, is more effective, and lasts longer when women are involved in peace processes. Empowering women in leadership positions and making more room for them at decision making tables is the only way to carve a path towards long-lasting peace. We cannot have peace without gender equality. It is a fact that women and girls are disproportionately impacted by conflict. ❗Gender-based violence is used as a weapon of war in all conflicts. ❗Women & girls eat last and least in conflicts that cause food shortages. ❗Women are responsible for caring for and providing for families and children. ❗Women’s specific health needs, like menstrual products or pregnancy and childbirth care, are rarely taken into consideration during peace and aid processes. Over the past year we have worked tirelessly to create a more peaceful world by supporting women and girls in conflict across the globe. We could only do that with your help. By donating to our Women’s Emergency Fund, you are making an active step towards creating a world where we can all live in peace together. 1 in 10 women and girls in the UK identify at #LGBTIQ+ It is important that every one of those women and girls receive equal education, representation, employment opportunities and respect if we are to live in a free and fair society. As we approach the biggest electoral year in history, it is vital that the rights and protection of all women and girls, regardless of sexuality or gender identity are progressed forward, not rolled backwards. Therefore, on this International Day against Homophobia, Lesbiphobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, we demand more action to eradicate the discrimination, violence and marginalisation faced by LGBTIQ+ people and greater education for all, at age appropriate levels, on gender equality, including gender identity and sexuality. We demand equality, freedom, and justice for all. #IDAHOBLIT

6 months ago we shared the story of Amani, a psychotherapist from #Rafah with a mission to support those traumatized by years of conflict. Amani and her family were displaced five times as they desperately sought safety. But there is no safe place in #Gaza. On 7th May an airstrike killed Amani and her 4 children. Though the war may have ended Amani’s story, her strength will live on. We continue to call for an immediate ceasefire in #Gaza and the release of all hostages. 🤍 Amani’s story is one of thousands, you can read it here: https://lnkd.in/dABTDC3m

In the UK 1 woman is killed every 3 days by someone known to her or a partner. Globally every day more than 133 women or girls are killed every day by someone in their own family. At UN Women UK, we’re determined to make every space a safe one for women and girls, that includes family and domestic spaces. Hi, we’re UN Women UK and this is what gender equality means to us. Gender inequality seeps into foundation of our society, from health to employment to culture to the environment, so tackling it can be a little overwhelming. Throughout our community we’ve seen people working towards progress across all sectors, and although we each have our own personal mission, we’re all ultimately all working towards the same goal - safe spaces and equal rights for all! So, let us know - what does gender equality mean to you?

Two months on and we're all still talking about CSW68, because our work doesn't stop until everyone is equal! 💪
Chief Operating Office for Europe and the Middle East at Barclays | Co-Chair of the London Environment Network (LEN) | Award winning DE&I Leader | Board Trustee | Climate Safe Lending Fellow 2023
I recently had the privilege of joining the United Nations 68th Convention on the Status of Women (CSW) as a UK delegate. This year’s theme ‘Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with agenda perspective’ resonates with the fact that when societies do not value and support women and girls, they lose out on the contribution, ideas and solutions put forward by half of the population; society as a whole is better off when it provides equal opportunities. The event provided the opportunity to dial into global official UN plenaries and side events where passionate individuals engaged in dialogue and generated solutions that envisages a gender equal world that is free from bias, stereotypes, and discrimination and that values diversity, promotes equity, and is truly inclusive. Prominent topics discussed included reducing economic disparities, addressing conflict and violence, and promoting women's leadership across all sectors. I’d summarise my key take aways as follows: 1. Gender inequalities exists everywhere, no country has reached full gender parity across society. Certainly in Europe we have opportunities that are not available elsewhere and in many countries legislation does not provide the basic rights to education, access to health and finance for all. The need for action is a global call, even in countries where strides have been made and on paper rights and opportunities are equal; 2. The stats with regards to gender inequality are staggering whether on poverty, tech and AI bias, female representation in decision making, support and financing available to female entrepreneurs, the disproportionate impact of climate change on women, the extent of gender based violence are just a few of the many challenges preventing women and girls from achieving their full potential and therefore contributing to a better society that leverages diversity of thought and experience and includes perspectives that generate innovative ideas so desperately needed to address today's global issues and accelerate the transition to a sustainable future; 3.It was definitely an inspiring and at the same time sobering experience to be part of #CSW68 and it felt purposeful and change making to be surrounded by such engaged global leaders, advocates and activists, united by the common goal of advancing gender equality. The engagement does not end here: following an Ideathon session on a selection of themes to advance economic empowerment and financing of women and girls, this year's delegates will be continue to work on a selection of projects to be taken forward. I'm excited to continue my involvement to advance gender parity. A heartfelt thank you to the UN Women UK commission, Tabitha Morton, Atonte Semira for selecting me to be part of the #CSW68 #equalopportunities #investinwomen #accelerateprogress #genderequality #CSW68.
