SXSW 2023
The Ancient Code to Unlock Performance
Description:
Is the All-Blacks’ success down to crunching the data or doing the Haka? There’s no shortage of apps and tech products aimed at gaining extra yards or scoring more goals, but have we got the balance of modern-day performance all wrong? What can our ancestors tell us about heart over heart rate? While sports scientists tweak their new app’s code, we turn to a different script to drive performance. It’s the ancient Māori code of togetherness – Whakapapa. In this talk, renowned performance coach Owen Eastwood and award-winning filmmaker Joel Mishcon explain how Māori philosophies are empowering elite teams and brands. They’ll debate the place philosophers have alongside scientists as they use this powerful, spiritual insight to unlock new levels of leadership, performance and teamwork.
