About this event

You may not really have thought about carbon monoxide (CO) risks in your day to day work or volunteering, both as it affects your clients and also you. But, there is a duty of care to you both. This online, hour long workshop is aimed at front line staff and volunteers from social care, NHS, Fire & Rescue Services, the voluntary and private sectors working in the UK who visit vulnerable people in their homes.

The Think CO online workshop will tell you more about what carbon monoxide is and how it is formed, the sources, signs and symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, how to help prevent it, and what the implications are for you and your clients. In particular, the workshop focuses on long term, low level risks which can have serious consequences. The risks of CO poisoning increase with poverty and with spending time at home where CO may be present, but undetected. The cost of living crisis is also seeing unsafe practices arise as people try to save money.

The online workshop is a mix of presentation, scenarios and practical exercises. Only the presenters will be on video, but participants can ask (or type) questions as we go along. The Chat function also enables you to answer questions and respond to real scenarios.

The workshop lasts just over an hour, and there will be an opportunity to ask further questions at the end. You will be sent a Zoom link at least 24 hours before the workshop starts.

You will also receive a Resources Pack of information and guidance after the workshop for you to use with your clients.

If you would prefer to do an e-learning course instead, covering similar topics, please email us on e-learning@gassafecharity.org.uk to receive log on details.
