Welcome to this
Special Edition of the
Oscar Kilo Newsletter

2021 is well underway and we've got some really great online sessions and webinars taking place in the coming weeks.
This special Edition of our newsletter gives you the details about these sessions and how to sign up.
All the sessions below are for Police Officers and Police Staff.

Oscar Kilo to host brand new Resilience Webinars

We are delighted to announce a new resilience programme. ‘Keeping the Peace’ webinars will be delivered by Alexis Powell-Howard, Director of Fortis Therapy, who brought us the successful ‘Keeping the Peace’ podcasts last year.

Alexis Powell-Howard, a professional speaker for mental health, has developed a reputation for being innovative, progressive, and collaborative in her thinking.

She has developed these interactive and engaging webinars to support police officers and staff with their mental health and emotional wellbeing, each session will be accompanied by a brand new podcast which will be uploaded to the series.

The webinars aim to help you to recognise the signs of emotional struggle in yourself and others and will give you the knowledge on how to support yourself and your colleagues.

The first webinar ‘Duty of Self Care’ takes place on 9 February at 1pm.

This session will discuss the role of serving the public, the impact of the job on your mental health, how to look after yourself and how to avoid burn-out.
Using the Fortis Self-Care Wheel you will explore your own levels of self-care, receiving tips that you can apply to yourself and to others.

Our second webinar ‘The Masks We Wear’ takes place on 15 March at 11am.

This session will look at how we present ourselves, how we respond to others, what we show and what we keep hidden and will discuss the reasons why.

It will discuss our perception of others, how this can get in the way and how we can all understand and manage the masks we wear better.

The first three webinars, Banishing the Winter Blues, Sleep Strategies for Shift Workers and Solving Stubborn Sleep Problems have already taken place.

The fourth webinar in our series Nightmares, Snoring, Sleep walking and other challenges takes place on Thursday 4 February 2021 at 11am
and Session 5, Sleepless Parents’ Survival Guide takes place on Thursday 4 March at 11am.

These sessions are for Police Officers and Staff and take place via GoToWebinar.

Themed Individual Resilience Sessions

Since the start of the pandemic we have held numerous Individual Resilience Check-ins, facilitated by Bailey and French, to help you through. These online sessions came at a time when work was changing, and whatever our roles, we were all dealing with varying amounts of fear, loss and isolation.

During the discussions on previous sessions it became apparent that there are common themes that are affecting us all.

To recognise these issues, the National Police Wellbeing Service has funded further themed sessions, in collaboration with Bailey & French, to offer you the opportunity to discuss these issues in more detail.

The themes sessions are as follows:

Home schooling – Wednesday 10 February at 10am – 11am

Vaccinations – Thursday 11 February at 10am – 11am

Returning to normal – Friday 19 February at 12noon – 1pm

Lockdown – Tuesday 23 February at 10am – 11am

Staying connected with others – Thursday 25 February at 10am – 11am

For more details and to sign up
All events and training will be advertised on the EVENTS PAGE of our website.

We are continuing to signpost to those national sources of information through GOV.UK and NHS websites so that you have the most up to date guidance.
